Yeah, we've talked about this before....

Ok, sometimes, the capture portrayed in the movies is kinda ridiculous, though. I mean, do they really have to zoom in on his face after every punch?

And I may disagree with you in this case.....
My question is, do girls like it when the guy gets captured because the strong, manly heroic character is now, himself, vulnerable and in need of saving? I think it's like the reversal of the female "oh, help, save poor defenseless me" syndrome that's instilled in women from birth.


I do agree with you on this-
Guys are often hotter when dirty, bleeding and sweaty. It's kinda the sign of a true man- when he doesn't care if he get's dirty, and he can handle pain. Although some guys are just stupid when it comes to injuries and pain tolerance..........

Well, it would be kinda weird to call a baby "babe".

Referring to an actual baby--that would be like "babe in a manger" More old-English usage, I think.

The worst is when you hear a girl call a guy a "babe"...like "He's such a babe." What the?

I usually refer to a guy as , "handsome". You wouldn't believe how many people tease you for that. What is the world coming too? And I agree with everything Jon and Josh stated. Pet names, should stay with pets.

Thats exactly right.

I didn't post on here to start a debate on the word "hot" when used to describe a guy or girl that one finds attractive. I merely responded to Hannah's question about the tortured, dirty, bloody thing. My point was that IF I thought a guy was good looking in the first place, I would probably think He was BETTER looking dirty, bloody, etc....

Seriously, it seems like every time I post on here, people tear my comments apart or misinterpret them.......

Come on guys, keep an open mind. Otherwise, this isn't fun anymore......

I don't watch too many "capture movies." But I can imagine what you mean.

Vulnerable: yes. In need of saving: no.

I think seeing a strong, manly, heroic character (the type I normally don't attach to anyway, but going with the argument...) vulnerable is definitely a character-acting moment. Very deep. Very poignant. Vulnerability is humanizing.

As far as "in need of saving," that depends. If you mean by a woman, I disagree. Unless it is by sheer intellectual power--which, I must say, we women are capable of--having a girl break a door down and save the day always annoys me.

I don't like uber-strong-female-characters. And I don't like the getting-carried-in-a-basket-screaming-"Indyyyyy!" female characters either. I like the smart normal ones that DO get saved, but don't get all gushy and obnoxious if they are.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but you have to realize that half the people on here apparently have felt that way at some point--that everyone's ganging up on them, I mean.

I like your comments earlier. And I like their comments on the word 'hot'. (That's why they're called "threads;" -they tend to twist and weave off topic.)

I, personally don't use the word "hot" because it sounds weird coming from me. But I don't say "handsome" either, because then I sound corny. (Caitlin, you can pull it off sometimes, but I can't.) I usually say "not.........ugly" or I just don't say anything. If I don't say anything negative, I'm probably on the inside. If I have to say something I say "aesthetically appealing" because most people don't know what "aesthetic" is, and then they don't think about what I said.

Again, that's just me.

Um, I completely agree with the comments on the word, 'hot'. (sorry, Jessica, I'm not trying to gang up on you, I'm just constantly... tardy)

As far as the whole muddy, sweaty, bloody, rained-on topic.... I didn't really talk about it in the van, so I also say 'no comment' online. Yeah, I know. You're all dying to hear my infinite wisdom.

No, you're not crazy! It's from Jane Eyre, which is a BBC miniseries we just started and Caitlin saw part one at my house. It's like a dark, scary not-as-pretty North and South, except more of a suspense movie than a romantic movie. (So far, anyway)

You'll have to watch it some time...

It ain't no "Pride and Predjudice" that's for sure.
The two main characters start out BUTT UGLY. The dude's a little thick, and the gal looks kinda evil.

But they grow on you quickly.....like a fungus.
